During this session we will consider how to effectively treat and manage mental illness in people with intellectual disability (PWID).
The session will incorporate a presentation on good prescribing and specific medication issues for PWID; a case example and group discussion regarding capacity and consent issues – including the use of disability and mental health acts; creation of a multi-disciplinary case based comprehensive management plan using a biological, psychological, social & developmental model and a question and answer session allowing participants to address specific issues and concerns that they have experienced in working with this patient group.
