Psychiatric Triage

Details This one day workshop is offered to staff who are interested in pursuing a career in psychiatric triage, or who are currently working in psychiatric triage services at one of the AMHS within the NEVIL cluster. It offers an opportunity to increase knowledge and practice skills in psychiatric triage. The workshop provides an overview of psychiatric triage: What is the function and how teams are structured. It also explores the basic skill set required and the “tasks” of a triage worker. The workshop considers the role and function and processing of the everyday issues in triage: phone assessments / face to face assessments; challenges in assessment, and brief and comprehensive assessments. The framework for the workshop includes didactic as well as experiential learning. Participants will have the opportunity to practice with the use of ‘live’ taped triage calls and exercises that explore the approaches that are taken and develop skills in what is useful / not useful to ask or say and addressing the complexities of triage.
