The North East Victoria Innovative Learning, Training and Professional Development Cluster (NEVIL) is a Victorian Department of Health and Human Services funded initiative to improve the delivery of mental health services in the eastern metropolitan suburbs and northeast regional Victoria. It does this by providing mental health staff and consumer and carer consultants with ongoing professional development education and training.

To provide Victorian mental health clinicians with evidence based, world’s best practice knowledge and skills in the diagnosis, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and recovery care of people with mental illness.

Who comprises NEVIL

NEVIL commenced in 2004 and comprises agencies that provide public mental health services. These agencies are:

  • Austin Health
  • Eastern Health
  • Forensicare
  • St Vincent’s Health
  • Goulburn Valley Health
  • Albury Wodonga Health

Links to these agencies can be found on our Links page.

More recently, reflective of increased synergy between the two sectors, staff of Victoria's Mental Health Community Support Sector (MHCSS) are now eligible to attend NEVIL training free of charge. Clinical mental health service staff are eligible to attend VicServ training for the usual fee.

Click here to visit the VicServ training calendar web page.

NEVIL is auspiced by St. Vincent's Mental Health Service. It's Management Committee comprises representatives from each of the participating agencies and consumer and carer consultants.

What NEVIL does

NEVIL conducts mental health professional development training. Our curriculum comprise training subjects which are identified by the NEVIL Management Committee as priority training areas for staff.   All training is provided by experts in their respective fields.  Activities are conducted in both metropolitan and rural regions to cater for the large geographic area the cluster covers.

Training Activities

Please visit our Calendar page to view the current list of education and training activities programmed for the NEVIL cluster. The calendar is updated frequently, so if you have an interest in an activity that is not currently programmed, please check the site regularly.

There is no registration or other fees to attend this training for staff of the mental health services of the NEVIL cluster hospital networks or their affiliated mental health community support services (MHCSS).  There is a fee of $60 per person per day for all other participants (including and not limited to non-mental health hospital staff, community centre staff, local, state and federal government staff, private practitioners, school and education sector staff etc).  Payment details will be made available on request.

Training activities normally comprise day long face-to-face seminars and workshops. Alternative mechanisms for training delivery, including on-line training, are being investigated.

Victorian Dual Disability Service Training

NEVIL is pleased to endorse and promote training offered by the Victorian Dual Disability Service (VDDS).  Below is a link to their calendar and workshop booking form.
