Let’s Talk is a brief evidence-based recovery oriented intervention to assist mental health professionals in their work with clients who are parents. It is a series of thematic discussions between a clinician and a parent, with the parent’s partner or support person/people, in which the impact of mental illness on parenting and family functioning is explored. Each child is discussed in detail, led by the consumer-parent, with a focus on enhancing the relationship between the parent and their child to support wellbeing. The model is able to be used in multiple settings, by any clinical discipline, and requires one full day of training and initial 12-month period of structured support (approx 1 hour per month) for implementation.
This consolidated training course is an integrated full day face to face training which integrates the four module Emerging Minds Online training package with practice of the method. The day builds understanding, knowledge and practice in the Let’s Talk method. Documentation and follow-up parent and stakeholder meetings are discussed, and supervision and support structures around embedding Let’s Talk into practice are also addressed.
Participants need to log into the Emerging Minds website after the day of training to do the assessment at the end of each module to receive their certificate from Emerging Minds.
